Wednesday, February 20th, 2008

I am looking for a bunch of Cardinals fans (the more the better) who are also Christians, and who would like to be part of a Cardinals group-blog.

A new opportunity at the St. Louis Post-Dispatch

Tuesday, February 19th, 2008

Beginning in mid-March, I will be taking part of an inter-faith religious blogging forum on the Post-Dispatch site (www.stltoday.com). We met today in order to discuss some format and technical issues. Each member of the panel is to write up 2-3 posts each week. I am looking forward to this opportunity. Once it gets rolling, I will “double-post” my entries by putting the beginning part of each column here, with the link to the rest available at the Post-Dispatch site. If you think of it, pray that I will make the most of this opportunity. Specifically, that my words and actions in this forum will be “wise as serpents and gentle as doves”.

Pray for Dr. Mohler

Thursday, February 14th, 2008

Please join with us in prayer for Dr. Mohler’s recovery, and for God to once again be glorified through Dr. Mohler’s response and testimony through a time of medical crisis, just as He was last year during Dr. Mohler’s hospitalization.

“Tornado Over Kansas” by John Steuart Curry

Monday, February 11th, 2008

I am praying for Union students and faculty to have renewed courage, and for God’s blessings to be on their heads. I am praying that God’s smiling face would be displayed outwardly through the Christian courage and hope of those who rebuild Union. Let the world take note of the hope that is within us, especially during times such as these. And I am praying that countless numbers of Union students will live their life with passion for building God’s Kingdom, meditating regularly on the fact that God spared their life that night. I can’t wait to see how the “One who rides upon the storm” is going to once again raise up Union — buildings and people — for great things in His Kingdom.

Missouri Baptist University & Dr. Andy Chambers make plans for Union University Disaster Relief

Friday, February 8th, 2008

I sit on the Board of Trustees at Missouri Baptist University here in St. Louis, and have the privilege of knowing a great group of folks who teach and administrate there. One of them is my friend Dr. Andy Chambers, MBU VP for Student Affairs and associate professor of Bible. Andy and I share a passion for Christian higher education, and have enjoyed talking about Union President David Dockery’s vision for such things.

Regarding the situation at Union University, Andy sent out this to the student body this afternoon

In my own backyard

Thursday, February 7th, 2008

What a week for overwhelming news - natural disaster and man-made mayhem - that makes the national headlines.

About eight minutes up the road from my house, in the municipality called “Kirkwood”, otherwise known as “part of St. Louis County” to outsiders, a man who reportedly was chronically disgruntled with municipal officials killed five people (at this point, some are in critical condition) including two police officers before being gunned down himself.

Here is the initial news story, although not many details are out yet.

Union University Recovery

Thursday, February 7th, 2008

The “emergency” phase has now passed and Union is moving into the beginning of “RECOVERY”. As such, there is now an official Union University Recovery site that has some personal and practical words for students and those of us from afar, letting students know how to get help and the rest of how we can […]

Mitt Romney bowing out. Some thoughts by Don regarding Super Tuesday

Thursday, February 7th, 2008

Is there a mortician in the house? The Republican Party has shot itself in the head and the wound is fatal. Conservatives, which make up the majority of the party, rushed like a Confederate cavalry charge to compete for the nomination and in the process handed a phoney conservative, like John McCain, the nomination and the Democrats the presidency. Brace yourself for higher taxes and two Ruth Bater Ginsburgs getting seats on the Supreme Court.

More video regarding Union University tornado devastation

Thursday, February 7th, 2008

The news office of our local St. Louis NBC affiliate called Tim today, looking for a local angle on the Union University tornado story. Tim himself has given dozens of interviews in the last 24 hours and has had little sleep. So, Tim gave them my name as a St. Louis alum of Union.
