Transcript of Jimmy Carters’ address at New Baptist Covenant

Thursday, January 31st, 2008

This is a transcript of the address given by President Jimmy Carter on January 30, 2008 at the New Baptist Covenant Celebration in Atlanta, Georgia. The low-points of the speech deserve critique. Before we get to that though (next post), take a read for yourself.

Dr. L. Russ Bush (1944-2008)

Wednesday, January 23rd, 2008

Tuesday evening, January 22, 2008, Dr. L. Russ Bush, SEBTS’ Academic Vice President and Dean of the Faculty Emeritus, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Dr. Bush was loved by us all at SEBTS, and by many others. God used him in a mighty way during his years of service to the Kingdom. We will be forever indebted to him. Please keep his wife and children in your prayers.

Al Mohler: Right Man, Right Time for SBC President

Thursday, January 10th, 2008

In June, I urged R. Albert Mohler, Jr., the highly respected president of The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky., to pray and ask God to see if it is God’s will that Mohler seek the presidency of the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC). Perhaps you have heard by now, but Mohler will allow Robert Jeffress, pastor, First Baptist Church, Dallas, Texas, a man whom I know and deeply respect, to place Mohler’s name in nomination for president when messengers gather in June for the SBC’s annual meeting in Indianapolis.

I am thrilled and I hope you are, too. I hope you will attend the annual meeting as a messenger, voice your support – and vote – for Mohler.

We read in the news this morning that a concert celebrating the 40th anniversary of Johnny cash singing at Folsom State prison was canceled because of problems over filming rights, media access and security concerns. The concert was set for January 13, 2008, to be played on the same cafeteria stage as the original event.

Kummer’s “16 Reasons Dr. Mohler is Qualified”

Monday, January 7th, 2008

It has only been five days since the announcement was made that Dr. Mohler will be nominated for Southern Baptist Convention President in Indianapolis 2008. Five days is not a lot of time, but an ocean of cyber-ink has already been used to cast doubt on the wisdom of electing Dr. Mohler to the position.

So the caucusing for SBC President has begun early, and has begun in earnest. Bring on the debate!
