The Annunciation…God breaks the silence with good news of His Messiah

There is nothing like a week long intense discussion about alcohol, church-plant funding, and gospel-contextualization to get me in the mood for Christmas.
In the midst of having all this fun, I wrote up a “Truth in Art” piece about Henry Tanner’s painting The Annunciation. It ran today in Baptist Press, so I thought I’d toss it out here too.
…The tension between realism and idealism finds no artistic solution in Tanner, for he is simply one side of the conversation. No matter how much I prefer Tanner’s realism, I must admit that the idealized depictions convey profound truth as well.
However, in some ways the person of Jesus Christ is the sole solution to the problem, for in Christ alone will realism (who we really are) find reconciliation with idealism (who God made us to be).
Now the Lambs must devote attention to our Advent pilgrimage to Bethlehem Alabama. I’ll be sporadic, or non-existent around here, depending on whether the next door neighbor of my no-internet-in-laws has upgraded to a higher-powered wireless since last year - LOL.
Merry Christmas to all. And a big congratulations to Timmy and Dusti Brister on the birth of their firstborn son Nolan.
