Krueger’s take
David Krueger has a Brister-esque summary of the Acts 29/MBC situation…detailed, historical, and some gutsy solution-making at the end.

MBC executive board simply acted in haste? Is it acting in haste when 1) the relationship with Acts 29 is indeed way too cozy, 2) they intentionally omit defining a doctrinal position on credo-baptism in their belief statement, and 3) none of the listed churches I’ve seen in MO have “Baptist” in their names? Call me old fashioned on #3, but still. Yet they desire Cooperative Funding dollars in light of these things. Notice I said noting about alcohol.
But perhaps this next part gets right to very core: Darren Patrick writes that “Theology at the Bottleworks was started to reach people who are actively opposed to Christianity, by discussing contemporary cultural issues in a neutral environment.” I’ll include the Cowboy Churches, et al. in my indictment: That is not how Paul interacted with the Athenians at the Areopagus in Acts 17, in terms of “discussing” contemporary cultural issues is how we preach now? Come on guys - Bring down the heavy artillery from Heaven if indeed you are Calvinists, as Dr. Gambrell once said! In the past God overlooked such times of ignorance but no longer. Our culture has had enough of accommodative approaches. Preach the Word, clear, straight, true, powerfully, and trust the Spirit draw those to Whom He will call.

I forgot to add “with the emerging movement” on point #1 above, my apologies.

Rick,
Listen to my sermons and tell me if I accomodate culture. They are free at www.journeyon.net
Theology at the bottleworks is not a preaching event or worship service
Also, how many educated, secular, liberal non-Christians friends do you have?

Having baptist in a church name is now requisite to receive CP dollars? Are you kidding me? Surely that’s a joke.

Jason, Rick is serious because Rick is a sectarian, hyper-calvinist.
