Anonymous sources, gossip, will ruin credibility

Thursday, September 20th, 2007

In May 2005, Newsweek published an article claiming U.S. troops at Guantanamo Bay had desecrated the Quran. Outrage was expressed from around the world. Violence in several Muslim countries led to the deaths of more than a dozen protesters expressing their anger at what U.S. troops were alleged to have done.

One problem: It was not true. It never happened.

The source for the story? Anonymous.

R. An Exercise in Careful Hermeneutics

…because not every interpretation is accurate and true. No matter how much someone may want the bacon, only hot air comes out.

Windermere seeks delay of trial

Tuesday, September 11th, 2007

Attorneys for Windermere Baptist Conference Center have filed a motion for continuance of the Oct. 12 trial date in its case against the Missouri Baptist Convention (MBC). In a motion of nearly 100-pages, including exhibits, the Windermere attorneys argued that the trial should be postponed at least 60 days in order to allow time for the trial judge Richard Callahan to consider a motion for summary judgment which they recently filed. At a hearing requested by the MBC, MBC counsel Charles Hatfield opposed the motion for continuance. He said the trial date has been set since May, and the reasons cited by defendant Windermere for a delay are inadequate. After hearing from all counsel, Callahan granted the Windermere motion and set a new trial date of February 1, 2008, saying he needed time to review the new summary judgment motion.

Two Men Enter Eternity: D. James Kennedy and Luciano Pavarotti

Thursday, September 6th, 2007

Within 24 hours, two men, both in their early seventies, passed from this life into eternity. Two men…each of whom left behind a mountain of audio recordings containing their voice, many of which sit on my shelves to my great delight.

A brief remembrance of Dr. D. James Kennedy

Wednesday, September 5th, 2007

I admired Dr. D. James Kennedy, who passed away today. He was one of several Christian leaders who got me thinking in terms of applying a Christian world view to every one of life’s disciplines. I completed Evangelism Explosion in 1995 and have been inspired by many of his books and sermons (I have many of them in print).
