Churchill Trivia

Here is a piece of trivia I have never seen documented anywhere else, and I only know it from first-hand experience.
Being a big fan of Winston Churchill, several years ago I purchased a 1965 Churchill Crown for a few bucks off of eBay. With 9 million in circulation, these are not rare coins. The image of Churchill is quite unflattering and even the font used for the word “Churchill” leaves much to be desired. The opposite side of the coin depicts Elizabeth II.

Now, here is the piece of trivial information. If you take this coin and give it a good spin and then let the coin spin out without bumping into anything or falling off the table… it will always and forever land with the Churchill image side up. I carried this coin in my pocket for several years, and in all my spinning it never once landed on Elizabeth! It doesn’t work if the spin only lasts 2-3 seconds, but if you give it a good spin it never fails - at least in my experience.

Must be the weight of it, or perhaps the air dynamics coming off the image.

Well, there you have it folks. It is hard-hitting blog postings like this which will change the world for the better.
