Roger Olson takes on Piper & Calvinism

Friday, August 31st, 2007

Roger Olson, professor at Truett Theological Seminary, takes on John Piper & Calvinism in regard to evil and in particular reference to the Minneapolis bridge collapse. The article is from the online edition of the Baylor student newspaper. This reminds me to finish up my reading and review of last year’s book by Olson, Arminian Theology: Myths and Realities.

Churchill Trivia

Friday, August 31st, 2007

Being a big fan of Winston Churchill, several years ago I purchased a 1965 Churchill Crown for a few bucks off of eBay. With 9 million in circulation, these are not rare coins. The image of Churchill is quite unflattering and even the typesetting of the word “Churchill” leaves much to be desired. The opposite side of the coin depicts Elizabeth II.

Maharishi Mahesh Yogi coming to your church?

Thursday, August 30th, 2007

Books on yoga occupy the bookshelves of Christian bookstores. Churches offer it as a class. Some are calling it Christian yoga, but there is nothing Christian about yoga. In fact, rather than lead Christians to God as it claims, it actually leads Christians away from God. The fundamental human problem is not ignorance, but rather our sin against a holy God, who gave His only son as our only source of salvation.

We all have cherished childhood memories: A certain Christmas, our first puppy, or some special moment with family or friends. One of my most vivid is of me sitting in front of the television at noon each weekday and at 8 a.m. on Sunday mornings to watch Southern Gospel groups perform their songs on “The Old […]

Word & Way, ABP wrong about MBC’s legal case

Friday, August 3rd, 2007

It has been a long time coming, but Missouri Baptists are closer than ever to finally getting their day in court. It has often seemed that “justice delayed is justice denied,” as the Missouri Baptist Convention (MBC) has had to fight delay tactic after delay tactic by defense counsel for the five breakaway agencies. It has been more than seven years since moderate trustees with the agencies – Missouri Baptist Foundation, The Baptist Home, Missouri Baptist College, Windermere Baptist Conference Center and Word & Way – first began to defy the 2,000 churches of the MBC and voted to go self-perpetuating, an illegal action that violated their governing documents.
