The Pathway is recognized for journalism excellence
The Pathway has won three awards for excellence in Christian journalism, including a first place for its news writing, in the 2007 Wilmer C. Fields Awards competition conducted by the Baptist Communicators Association (BCA).

The awards were presented to Editor Don Hinkle, Associate Editor Allen Palmeri and Staff Writer Brian Koonce at the BCA’s April 13 awards banquet held at the Riverview Hotel here. It marked the first time The Pathway has ever entered a journalism contest. The BCA has approximately 300 members comprised of communications specialists and professionals throughout the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC). Judging is conducted by veteran editors, journalists, public relations practitioners and scholars from the secular as well as the Christian journalism fields. READ THE ARTICLE…

Governor Blunt wants law to reduce Missouri abortions

Acting on his Christian worldview, Gov. Matt Blunt has been seizing every opportunity he can to drive home the urgency of a pro-life bill getting to his desk so that he can sign it this year.

In an exclusive April 5 interview with The Pathway, Blunt, who attends Second Baptist Church, Springfield, said he really likes Senate Bill 370, sponsored by Sen. Delbert Scott, R-Lowry City.

“The Senate’s done good work,” the governor said. “They’ve crafted a good bill with practical measures to help reduce the number of abortions, and I’m hopeful that they’ll be able to bring it to a vote, pass it, send it to the House, and the House will send it to my desk.” READ THE ARTICLE…

Theology committee tackles Emerging Church

The Missouri Baptist Convention (MBC) theological study committee April 16 heard the new interim executive director of the MBC affirm its position statement regarding Scripture and policy guidelines for MBC staff members desiring to work with non-political para-church ministry organizations.

David Tolliver asked several questions about the document before stating, “I welcome the guidelines. They do protect us.”

Chairman Michael Knight, pastor of First Baptist Church of Viburnum, was pleased with the meeting, which was largely spent with Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary’s D. Mark DeVine, associate professor of Christian theology, as he talked about the Emerging/Emergent Church. Committee members agreed to review seven preliminary statements about this movement that Knight drafted based on DeVine’s remarks and subsequent discussion. The committee’s next meeting will be at 10 a.m. April 30 in the Baptist Building. READ THE ARTICLE…
