Scottie Reynolds and Villanova beats Georgetown
I know, I know, sports has kind of dominated the discussion lately.
Nevertheless, I must report that Scottie Reynolds, my wife’s 2nd Cousin (or is that cousin-once-removed?) who is a starting freshman for Villanova’s basketball team had a GREAT night last night in helping V defeat Georgetown. And, since his family is from northern Virginia (originally from Athens, Alabama), he did it in front of family and friends. His adopted parents (Pearl’s cousin) were in the stands and the ESPN crew went on and on about Scottie and his family. This kid is as good as they come in terms of off-court Christian character. Originally signed to Oklahoma, he got OK to release him before he ever showed up in Norman because the coach that recruited him left for another school. So, he will be playing for Villanova for the next four years and already has a lot of buzz about potential NBA prospects. The kid was in diapers the last time Pearl saw him, but he then went on to become a McDonald’s All-American.
If you look for a reason to follow a few teams in NCAA hoops prior to “March Madness”, then Scottie Reynolds is your reason. And pray for this young man as he progresses through college, big-time university athletics, and his walk with the Lord.
Here is a paragraph from the press clippings from last night’s game.
“Thanks to freshman Scottie Reynolds’ 16 points, sophomore Shane Clark’s foul shooting and some terrific defense, the Wildcats held on for a 56-52 victory in an old-fashioned Big East defensive struggle, ending the Hoyas’ seven-game winning streak.”
And here are a few lines from the Villanova basketball site:
Given name is Scott Reynolds … Son of Pam and Rick Reynolds … Born Oct. 10, 1987 in Huntsville, Ala. … Has two brothers, Eric and Ross, and three sisters, Kelli Platt, Susie McGee and Dahlia … Played on Boo Williams’ teams on the AAU circuit … Participated in 2005 USA Basketball Youth Development Festival, where he helped USA White team to a gold medal … He started four games and averaged 7.0 points and 3.4 assists per game … Originally signed a National Letter of Intent to attend Oklahoma but was released when head coach Kelvin Sampson departed for Indiana in April of 2006.

[…] I picked Nova over Clemson on account of Scottie. But for them to come back from 18 points down, that was awesome. Scottie had his mug on the front page of Yahoo’s NCAA coverage this morning. Now, with the upset win of Siena over Vanderbilt, Nova has a chance to at least get to the sweet 16. I don’t know anything about Siena, but they are a 13th seed (Nova is 12), so it should be a good game. […]

Pam and Rick are our good friends and we have watched Scottie grow into a wonderful Christian young man. We are very proud of him. Go Scottie!
