J.K. Rowling Blasts Away at Fashionable Emaciation

Scott Lamb

J.K. Rowling, the author of the Harry Potter series says that ultra-skinny fashon models are a terrible thing for girls to aspire to be. She wants none of it for her own daughters.

She says, “I’ve got two daughters who will have to make their way in this skinny-obsessed world, and it worries me, because I don’t want them to be empty-headed, self-obsessed, emaciated clones,” she stated.

Being skinny is the last thing she cares for her daughters to be - “I’d rather they were independent, interesting, idealistic, kind, opinionated, original, funny - a thousand things, before ‘thin’.

Just when you thought she was done…. she gives what is certainly one of the funniest quotes I’ve read in a long time:

“And frankly, I’d rather they didn’t give a gust of stinking chihuahua flatulence whether the woman standing next to them has fleshier knees than they do.”

I have four sons, but no daughters. I can’t imagine the heartache for both parents and daughters when a young lady becomes mentally and emotionally consumed with being thin… really thin.

I may not care much for the Potter series, but Rowling gets my admiration for speaking such a bombastic attack against the cultural sickness of fashionable emaciation.
